Safeguarding in Parish of Cove

Safeguarding in Parish of Cove

In Cove we feel it is important that everyone feels welcome and safe, whatever their age and need and whatever the activity, so that they can build relationships and become a part of a happy, vibrant church community. Our responsible body is the Cove PCC (Parochial Church Council), which oversees the nurture and protection of all in our church community.

Our safeguarding policy keeps within the Church of England and the Diocesan guidelines, details of which can be found at www.cofeguildford.org.uk/safeguarding (CLICK HERE). In doing this we have adopted the Church of England Promoting a Safer Church Policy Statement, House of Bishop’s Practice Guidance and supporting diocesan safeguarding protocols.

The Parish of Cove Safeguarding Policy (CLICK HERE) is reviewed annually by the PCC. In all our work with children, young people and vulnerable adults we follow these guidelines.

To help the PCC with this, we have a Safeguarding team who oversee both children and vulnerable adults across the parish: Jacquie Snuggs is our Parish Safeguarding Officer and she is supported in this by representatives from both churches. They are Daphne Williams (Christ Church, formerly St Christopher’s and Southwood church) and Elaine Bateman and Brenda Graham (St John’s). Each member of this safeguarding team is available to speak with you about any issues or concerns that you might have. Please contact the Church Office at info@parishofcove.org.uk or call 01252 371804 during office hours (Mon – Thu, 9am – 12 noon) if you would like to be put in touch with our Parish Safeguarding Officer or another member of the team.

Across the parish we have a large team of volunteers who help children, young people and vulnerable adults in their groups and activities. Each person on the team has to complete an application form, a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check and a disclosure form. We offer appropriate training to all who join our team.

The Parish Safeguarding Officer is happy to discuss this should you have any questions.

If you need to talk to someone outside of our parish, please contact the Diocesan Safeguarding Adviser – jane.huttly@cofeguildford.org.uk Office : 01483 790321 Mobile: 07552 530355
