39 Articles of Church of England

At Cove parish we affirm the 39 Articles of the Church of England, which includes the following things which are central to the Christian faith:

There is but one living and true God, the maker of all things, and that the one God is three Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy spirit.

That Jesus is the divine Son of God, who suffered, was crucified, died, and buried, to reconcile his Father to us, and to be a sacrifice for all our sins.

That Jesus did rise from the dead in bodily, physical form and has ascended into heaven. He sits at the right hand of God and will return to judge all people at the last day.

That the Bible alone tells us everything we need to know in order to be saved to eternal life,

That Christians are called by God to be morally obedient to the Bible’s teaching.

That all people have a sinful nature, and are inclined to desire things which are not in accord with God’s will.

That no person can save themselves from God’s judgement, but that there is no condemnation for those who believe in Jesus Christ.

The only way that we can stand holy and without sin before God is through faith in Jesus Christ: there is nothing that we alone can do to make ourselves holy before God.

That a living faith in Jesus can be tested by the fruit of works which are pleasing to God.

Jesus Christ is the only person who ever lived who is without sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

That those who put their faith in Jesus Christ are adopted as children of God, whom we may then call our heavenly Father, and nothing can change this.

But there is no other means of being saved to eternal life except through faith in Jesus Christ.

That Baptism and Communion (The Lord’s Supper) are signs, instituted by Jesus Christ, of believers belonging to one another and to Him
