Alpha at St John’s

What is Alpha?

Alpha is a ten week course looking at the basics of the Christian faith.  

Some of the topics we look at are:

• Who is Jesus?

• How can I be sure about my faith?

• How does God guide us?

• How can I be filled with the Holy Spirit?

• Why & how do I pray?

• How can I make the most of the rest of my life?

Who is Alpha for?

Alpha is for anyone!  People of all ages from teenagers upwards have attended.  It particularly caters for:

• Those wanting to explore the meaning of life

• People investigating Christianity

• New Christians or newcomers to the church

• Those who feel they never really got going as a Christian.

What's involved in Alpha?

Each meeting starts with a cooked meal and drinks.  Then there is a talk followed by a time of discussion which provides an opportunity to chat and ask questions for those who want to.  Great friendships are often made through the course.

Also during the course we have a day away to consider the work and person of the Holy Spirit.  For most people this has been the highlight of the course.  

There is no charge for Alpha although donations to the church are accepted. Also the course is entirely voluntary so there is no compulsion to stay on once it has started.
